Yes! Within waste management, certain ‘waste’ products can be classed as co-products and therefore not waste at all, a good example of this is food that can be redirected towards animal feed. Even genuine waste types have a sales value. Many materials have value which we look to further maximise through innovations with your site. Paper, Cardboard and Plastics are some of the biggest sources of income from waste.
Our account management team are waste experts, they will work closely with you to ensure that the waste management provision works both commercially and operationally. The account management team will also help steer you towards your sustainability and financial goals. The plastic is collected and sorted into different materials before going through reprocessing. Depending on the plastic form, the stages of processing generally involve shredding, washing, further shredding (grinding) or melting and extrusion to form pellets.
There are many different components to plastic waste management. Mobius are waste experts with an in-depth understanding of how plastic recycling works. Different types of plastic have different value and need to be segregated to ensure higher quality plastic recovery. We will arrange onward movement of the plastic to reprocessors that specialise in the particular plastic type and will provide the best value.
Yes! Plastics are valuable materials which can be repurposed into new products. Plastic recycling offers some of the highest rebates within waste management. There are many different types of plastic, and each type can be available in different forms and colours. It is essential to know what the plastic you have is and the best way to prepare it to redeem the greatest value. Mobius will take charge of ensuring your business gets the maximum value for each of your waste materials.
Once used cooking oils arrive at waste processing facilities, they will undergo a heated filtration process to remove food products and impurities. After this first stage of cleaning, the oil is then put into a centrifuge and spun which separates the oil out from the water and fine solids, transforming the used oil product into a reusable resource. This resource can then be used to add additional fat content into animal feed products.
One of the big challenges with managing fats and oils from a manufacturer is the storage of these by-products on site. Mobius manages the handling and transfer of fats and oils and provides equipment to store them effectively. Cooking oils are usually an unavoidable waste product from the cooking process. These recovered oils can be collected in bulk quite simply. More complicated is the process of recovering oils from the wastewater produced by a factory, prior to discharge. Skimming or scrubbing systems can be provided by Mobius to remove these valuable oils from the water. This has the double effect of reducing the cost of water discharge and also the potential of creating a value from the oil being captured.
Vegetable-based oils offer a great source of income for our clients. The value of the vegetable-oil is based on its purity and the level of processing required to filter it into a useable resource. Other factors determining the price we offer our customers is the water content of the oil and the type of oil provided.
The first step in recycling paper and cardboard is segregation into different quality grades. This is determined by the length of fibers which shorten with each round of recycling. The sorted fibers are then mixed with virgin fibers and chemically washed, heated and passed through a screen to remove impurities. The pulp that is left is then sprayed onto a conveyer and bonded together with water and rolled out with heated metal rollers to create the paper products.
There are many approaches Mobius can take to help manage your paper and cardboard waste. Within manufacturing facilities, high volume waste producers often require some form of specialised equipment to deal with their paper and cardboard waste such as a baler. Mobius can provide this equipment as it helps maximise efficiency. Depending on how the card and paper is presented, Mobius will provide the collection and onward movement of the material to the recycling facility.
Of course! Fibre products (Cardboard and Paper) remain in very high demand around the world and recycled fibre is an intrinsic part of the process. One of the key factors in deciding the price of recycled paper and cardboard is its ‘Grade’. Fibre is sorted into grades, determined by the length of the fibers and the colour, these factors impact upon its quality therefore its price
Surplus Food and food manufacture co-products are some of the most important things food manufacturers can recycle. Uncontaminated products such as cereals, crisps and bread are primarily sent to animal feed. Our parent company SugaRich will take these products and process them to remove materials such as packaging and plastic until they are left with a fine powered animal feed ingredient. These ingredients are then mixed to make nutritionally balanced feeds for animals. Products unsuitable for feed are generally sent to Anaerobic Digestion facilities which break down organic matter and convert it into biogas. This gas is a highly versatile fuel which feeds into the national energy and gas grid.
Food and Co-product management is tailored depending on the type of products available. Primarily, we aim to send as much food to animal feed facilities as we can. Products and co-products will be collected on site with designated disposal areas to avoid contamination and sent off to animal feed facilities to be turned into a nutritionally balanced animal feed. Unsuitable products for this would instead be transferred to a local AD plant where it is processed into biofuel.
Absolutely, although it is not always the case. Different types of food products have different values which are dependent on a variety of factors, such as the nutritional value of the ingredients, the amount of processing required to remove packaging and the moisture content of the products. It is important to speak with an expert from Mobius to get the best value for the food material you have.
